We are looking for essays for an edited book volume on the cultural politics of the Middle
East in the Americas, to be published by The University of Michigan Press in 2007.
Essays should focus on representation and diaspora as impacted by the
transnational circulation of goods, ideas, images and sounds. The essays should
be written within an interdisciplinary cultural studies approach. The volume
aims at deconstructing the academic boundaries established between area studies, ethnic studies, and
postcolonial studies.
We will also consider essays written within a comparative
perspective, in relation to Middle Eastern communities in other "Western"
spaces such as Europe. While unpublished work is preferred, some previously
published pieces will be considered.
